IntroductionThe Department of English is one of the first departments established in the portals of Dr. M.G.R Government Arts and Science College for Women. The Department functions with the aim of enhancing the Communication Skills of the Students. The Department enjoys the status of being in contact with every student at the UG level. It serves all the Departments of Arts and Sciences teaching the Foundation English Paper to re-invigorate the developmental needs of the students. The Under-Graduate students are being provided the best needed education by a team of dedicated, smart, and committed Faculty members, who equip students with the required skills for employment. The Department Library provides access to multiple treasures of literature. The Curriculum is specially designed to make the students specialize in dynamic fields such as, Communication Skills, Information Technology, Translational Studies, Gender and Feminist Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, English for Competitive Examinations, English Language Teaching, Linguistics, Phonetics, Media Studies, Subaltern Studies, Literary Cultures, Modern Texts and Approaches and it blends with the traditional and the modern way of life. To enhance the Leadership quality of the students, they are assigned various responsible roles and made to organise various literary activities. The Department unearths and taps the multiple talents of the students by a wide range of activities through various Clubs, Seminars, Webinars, Workshops, and Special Lectures and Coaching Programmes. In pursuit of nurturing academic excellence, the Department has always motivated debates and discussions to cultivate the creative abilities of the students. The Department has an actively functioning Literary Association that conducts various literary activities every week, which include Poetry Recitation, Essay Writing, Debates ( பட்டிமன்றம் ), Short Story Writing,Story Telling, Singing, Drama, Poster Presentation, Slogan Writing, Painting and Sketching to transform the students into Competent Graduates. As Literature is a Reflection of Life, the Department prepares the students not only for literature but also for a Successful Life and Harmonious Living. |
