INTRODUCTION

           Dr.M.G.R. Government Arts and Science College for Women, Villupuram was established in the year 2017, in memory of Late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Bharat Ratna, Dr. M.G.Ramachandran. Affiliated to the Thiruvalluvar University, the College aims to impart knowledge and holistic development to aspiring young women especially from the socially and economically backward classes of the society. Standing by its moto "ulluvadhellam uyarvullal" meaning  whatever you ponder let your aim be lofty still, the college has created a niche for itself in a very short span of time. With over 1400 students the college offers a wide range of undergraduate programs in Science, Arts and Humanities.

          Dr. M.G.R. Government Arts and Science College for Women was established during the academic year 2017-2018. Realising the urgent need to establish a Women's College in Villupuram the visionary members of the Government of Tamilnadu came up with a strong petition to set up a college which will benefit the rural women students in and around Villupuram. The new building of the college was inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Mr. Edapaadi K. Palanisamy during November 2019 under the able leadership of the Honorable Law Minister Mr. C. V. Shanmugam and in the august presence of the Honorable Higher Education Minister Mr. K.P. Anbalagan. The college strives to better the students through educational experiences both in and out of the classroom. We aim to create a haven where students feel safe to tackle challenges and accomplish all of their goals, both personally and professionally. We offer a variety of services designed to help the students to be the best version of themselves.

           Gandhiji says women have the ability to make a difference and create a world better for the future generations. We recognize this and are committed to serve the women students hailing from the economically weaker sections of the society. The college aims to impart quality education and also focusses on the all- around holistic growth of the students. We cherish all the endeavours of the people in authority who have extended their helping hand and support in shaping our institution. With the continued support and dedication of all the teaching and non-teaching faculty members we are confident to reach higher peaks of academic excellence.
