About The College

         Education is indispensable for the progress of our lives. To provide quality education, the Government Order was released to open a new government college for women in Villupuram district under the law of legislative assembly 110 and was inaugurated by the honorable chief minister of Tamil Nadu on 19.06.2017.

         The college has been renamed as Dr. M.G.R. Government Arts and Science College for Women on 09.08.2017 during the Bharat Ratna Dr. M.G.R Centenary celebration arranged by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Initially, the college was started with five Undergraduate Courses such as B.A. Tamil, B.A. English, B.Com., B.Sc. Mathematics and B.Sc. Computer Science in the academic year 2017- 2018. Later, in the academic year 2018-2019, four Undergraduate Courses such as B.Sc. Physics, B.Sc. Chemistry, B.Sc. Statistics and B.S.W have been started. Then, B.A. History and B.A. Economics have been started in the academic year 2019-2020.

         The college started functioning with 11 undergraduate courses in the campus of Kamarajar Boys Higher Secondary School, Villupuram. The new building of the college in Salamedu, Villupuram has been inaugurated on 26.11.2019 (Tuesday) by the then honorable Chief Minister Mr. EdapadiPazhanisamy. In the academic year 2019- 2020, the permission to build twelve classrooms and two laboratories has been granted by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

         The college has been functioning in order to develop the personality, subject knowledge and skills of the students. It is no doubt that the college is running successfully according to the saying of PuratchikavingarBharathiDasan
